The London Marathon is one of the most famous marathonsÂ in the world; raising record breaking amounts for charity. Today’s marathon was the biggest in the event’s history.
Nearly 40,000 people wereÂ cheered through the streets of the capital.
Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge won the men’s marathon,Â Ethiopia’s Tigist Tufa claimed the women’s event, Josh George became theÂ Paralympic champion and Paula Radcliffe ran her final London Marathon.
Around 37,800 fund raisers, amateur runners and elite athletes lined up on the start line of the Virgin Money London Marathon, making it the biggest in the event’s 35-year history.
Conditions were reasonably good for the runners, with just patchy rain and mild temperatures on a gloomy day in the capital.Â An estimated 750,000 spectators lined the streets.
